Conference Venue

The 13 th annual conference will take place at the Faculty of Education, Kardeljeva ploščad 16, Ljubljana The faculty is located three kilometres from the city centre and is situated along the city-bus lines.

Conference Programme

The conference programme will start with a one-day pre-conference event on Humanising Assessment. International and Slovene presenters, such as Craig Dicker, Annie Polatsek, David A. Hill, Apolonija Klančar Kobal, Berta Kogoj, Ksenija Leban and Magdalena Novak will be giving plenary talks and workshops on assessment-related aspects, in particular on student-friendliness, teacher-friendliness, learner independence, continuous assessment, innovative and humanised approaches supporting and boosting the learning process as well as the student's self-esteem.

The event will be followed by the 13th annual conference . International and Slovene presenters, such as Rita Baker, Mojca Belak, Slavko Cvetek, Craig Dicker, Karmen Feher, Šarolta Godnič Vičič, Meta Grosman, David A. Hill, Robert Hill, Nives Kreuh, Steve Lever, Simon Marshall, Bruce Milne, Clive Oxenden, Karmen Pižorn, Annie Polatsek, Alenka Rebula and Janez Skela will be giving plenary talks, workshops, demonstrations, project reports, swapshops, panel discussions and commercial presentations on a wide range of topics, focusing in particular on intercultural and language awareness, teacher development, new technologies and developments, new approaches, effective and holistic learning, young learners and students with special needs.

The largest ELT Resources Exhibition in Slovenia, showing the latest published materials, videos, CD ROMs, DVDs, computer software and services, will be open for the length of the conference.

Registration for Residents of the Republic of Slovenia

Registration is open to any member of the public who wishes to attend the conference.

Registration fees differ depending on when you register and the delegate's membership in IATEFL SLOVENIA . We strongly recommend that the delegates register early and take advantage of the early-registration and member rates.

In order to register, conference participants should send a completed registration form and a completed IATEFL SLOVENIA membership form (if they wish to join IATEFL SLOVENIA and be entitled to member rates) stating whether they will be paying on their own or their institutions will be paying on their behalf. Upon receiving your completed registration form, IATEFL SLOVENIA will invoice either you or your school.

Should there be more than one teacher from one school registering, please send in all applications together.

Those registering after 1 September 2005 will be paying their conference (and membership) fees in cash at the conference venue.

All registration forms which will reach IATEFL SLOVENIA after 1 September 2005 will be ignored and payment on the spot will apply.

Registration Fees for Residents of the Republic of Slovenia

The full-attendance registration fee for the three-day event includes the conference fee for both the pre-conference event and the conference (22 - 24 September 2005), the full-attendance registration fee for the two-day event includes the conference fee for the conference (23 September - 24 September 2005) or the pre-conference event and one day at the conference event, while the single-day attendance registration fee covers the conference fee for one day (either at the pre-conference event or at the conference).

Registration Fees for Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students joining IATEFL SLOVENIA can attend both the conference and the pre-conference event (23 - 25 September 2004) for a special registration fee in the amount of SIT 15,000 or the annual conference (24 - 25 September 2004) for a special registration fee in the amount of SIT 10,000 on condition they present a document certifying their student status upon registration and pay for their student membership fee, while a special registration fee of SIT 8,000 covers for the single-day attendance, either at the pre-conference event or at the conference.

Special Offers

Affiliations (schools, institutions and private companies) registering and paying for the registration fees of more than four delegates, can send every fifth delegate to the three-day event free of charge.

All the delegates must be IATEFL SLOVENIA members either through the individual or institutional membership scheme.

Individual Membership Fees for Residents of the Republic of Slovenia

The IATEFL SLOVENIA individual membership fee for the school year 2005/06 (expires on 31 August 2006) amounts to SIT 10,000. The membership fee entitles the members to member rates at all the events organised by IATEFL SLOVENIA , four issues of the IATEFL SLOVENIA Newsletter IN, free issues of English Teaching Forum, one copy of conference proceedings of the 13 th IATEFL SLOVENIA conference, the right to vote at the annual general meeting and other similar events organised by IATEFL SLOVENIA , as well as special offers made by exhibitors during the events or those advertised in the IATEFL SLOVENIA Newsletter IN and the participation in special events, such as raffles.

Special Membership Fees for Undergraduate Students

The IATEFL SLOVENIA student membership fee for undegraduate students for the school year 2005/06 (expires on 31 August 2006) amounts to SIT 5,000 .

Institutional Membership for Affiliations Registered in the Republic of Slovenia

The IATEFL SLOVENIA institutional membership fee for the school year 2005/2006 (expires 31 August 2006) amounting to SIT 50,000 entitles the institution to member rates at all the events organised by IATEFL SLOVENIA for three of the members of their English-language teaching staff, three sets of four issues of the IATEFL SLOVENIA Newsletter IN, three sets of free issues of English Teaching Forum, three copies of conference proceedings of the 13 th IATEFL SLOVENIA conference, the right to vote at the annual general meeting and other similar events organised by IATEFL SLOVENIA , free membership in IATEFL SLOVENIA special interest groups, as well as special offers made by exhibitors during the events or those advertised in the IATEFL SLOVENIA Newsletter IN and the participation in special events, such as raffles, for any of the three members of their English-language teaching staff participating in the event.

Special Competition for IATEFL SLOVENIA Members

IATEFL SLOVENIA warmly encourages their members to enter a special competition leading to breath-taking awards, such as free courses in English-speaking countries and free registrations at international events.

In order to enter the competition, the members are invited to send a poster (50 cm x 70 cm) entitled "The Most Brilliant Idea I Had as a Teacher Last Year" to the IATEFL SLOVENIA postal address by and including 1 September 2005. The posters will be exhibited at the September conference. A special panel of judges will be appointed for the selection and nomination of the award winners to be announced during the closing ceremony of the 13 th international conference.

IATEFL SLOVENIA Flee Market

Delegates are kindly invited to bring textbooks, workbooks, reference books, manuals, dictionaries, novels, collections of poems, short stories and other relevant publications in the English language that they no longer need and believe to be of use to other English teachers. All the publications will be displayed and sold at a special stand for the duration of the conference.

The following registration fees are for delegates who are not members of IATEFL SLOVENIA .

Delegates from soft-currency countries are entitled to the following special registration fees on condition they are members of their local Iatefl associate.

Method of Payment for Non-Residents of the Republic of Slovenia

If agreed upon with IATEFL SLOVENIA, non-residents of the Republic of Slovenia can pay their conference fees in cash at the conference venue upon registration. The amount of the conference fee depends on the date of registration either via e-mail or surface mail.

Cancellations

For conference registration cancellations, a fee of SIT 10,000 (£ 30 / € 50) will be deducted from the conference fee. No refunds will be given for conference registration cancellations received after 1 September 2005.

Membership fees cannot be refunded .

Getting to Ljubljana

By air - The Ljubljana airport is situated at Brnik, 20 kilometres from Ljubljana. Regular shuffles will take you to the Ljubljana city centre for approximately € 4.50 (£ 3), while a taxi should cost approximately € 27 - 31 (£ 16.5 - 19.5).

By rail and by bus - The Ljubljana Bus Station is adjacent to the Ljubljana Railway Station. Both of them are situated along the city-bus lines. Taxis are available from the Railway Station.

Getting to the Conference Venue

By bus - The conference venue is situated along the city-bus lines number 6 and 8, bus stop "Mercator". Delegates can buy daily bus passes (SIT 900) at the LPP ( Ljubljanski potniški promet ) shops at the bus station, Bavarski dvor and Trdinova 3 and the LPP headquarters at Celovška 160. Tokens (SIT 190) can only be purchased at a limited number of newspaper agents around Ljubljana. Bus services in Ljubljana also operate on an exact change system, so make sure that you have the required amound (SIT 300) ready before boarding a bus.

By car - Access to a large car park (with the hourly parking fee amounting to SIT 200) is from Vojkova cesta behind the faculty building.

Accommodation

Participants should make their own accommodation arrangements. Several hotels, such as City Hotel ( www.hotelturist.si ), Hotel Austrotel ( www.austrotel.net ), Grand Hotel Union ( www.gh-union.si ) and Hotel Slon ( www.hotelslon.com ), are located in the city centre. Impressive accommodation is offered by Domina Grand Media Hotel ( www.dominahotels.com ), located within a 5-minute walking distance from the conference venue, and Hotel Mons ( www.hotel.mons.si ), located in an idyllic setting in the immediate proximity of the Ljubljana bypass (but not along the city bus route).

Accommodation at reasonable prices is offered by the Hotel Emonec ( www.hotel-emonec.si ), and the Pri Mraku bed and breakfast ( www.daj-dam.si ) , as well as Zavod ŠOU Hostel ( www.souhostel.com ), all nicely located in the city centre, as well as by Prenočišča Bežigrad ( www.prenocisca-bezigrad.com ), located within a 15-minute walking distance from the conference venue, M Hotel, situated along the city bus route and just around the corner from Tivoli Park ( www.m-hotel.si ), as well as by BIT Center ( www.bit-center.net ) which, however, is fairly far from the conference venue.
