Dear colleagues and members of IATEFL Slovenia ,

This academic year SIG Literature Group and The House of Experiments kindly invite you, along with your primary school, secondary school or university students, to respond to our invitation and take part in the Poetry Contest. The original idea was to celebrate World Book Day on April 23, which is - appropriately - also William Shakespeare's birthday. However, we have decided to extend the deadline till the end of the school year to encourage as many pupils and students as possible to share with us their ideas. The deadline is thus set on 22 nd June 2007.

This year we have a contest divided into four categories:

a.) Primary school, 2nd triad

b.) Primary school, 3rd triad

c.) Secondary school

d.) University

From your students we would like: A POEM.

A poem of any kind and of any form.

The topic of this year contest is: PHYSICS.

Physics is not only energy, electricity, light and a whole system of complicated formulas and signs, physics surrounds us everywhere and every moment and its phenomena have inspired and are inspiring artists of all sorts and of all times. And hopefully will also inspire a poet in you and your pupils and students!

We have some sources of inspiration ready for you. The House of Experiments was ready to help with it and willing to participate.

In order to find the sources of your inspiration we kindly ask you to visit the website of The House of Experiments: http://www.h-e.si/ . After opening it, go to INFORMACIJE , then to ZNANOST NA AVTOBUSIH and finally SLEDI POVEZAVI. You may click straightforward the British flag, then open SCIENCE ON BUSES, push FOLLOW THIS LINK and finally JUMP TO QUESTIONS to get the English version. There you will find numerous questions and answers exposing and discussing various physical phenomena. We would like you to choose ONE phenomenon and write a poem on it. The title of your poem is not necessarily the question proposed by The House of Experiments, but can be determined by you. Specify the phenomenon of your choice on the entry form.

The committee selecting the best poems will consist of a poet with a good grasp of English, a native speaker and a scientist.

The committee will look at the criteria of

a.) artistic value

b.) language

c.) originality

d.) scientific accuracy

In each individual category three of the best poems will be awarded a prize - surprise. All poems will be published on www.iatefl.edus.si .

Works should be accompanied by carefully filled-in entry form. Work that is received after the deadline will not be taken into account.
